My Nestle talenthouse submission

This project was primarily a personal endeavor that I created to participate in the Nestle competition hosted on the Tallenthouse platform several years ago, around 2016. While the packshot directly aligns with the given brief, the rest of the project was a result of my own creative exploration. I aimed to experiment with ideas that I found intriguing and achievable within the limited timeframe of three evenings after work and school, up until the deadline.

LAYOUT

software: Maya

The majority of the 3D assets used in this project were sourced from my database, with a few pieces either modified or created from scratch.

TEXTURING, SHADING & LIGHTING

software: Maya, Photoshop
render engine: Redshift 1

All the materials in this project were custom-made using the Redshift Architectural uber shader with the legacy Ashikhmin-Shirley BRDF. It's a nostalgic reminder of the times when this setup was the default option.

ANIMATION

software: Maya

I utilized simple keyframe animation and one expression to control the rotation speed of the gramophone. This project wasn't about animation skills ;)

COMPOSITING & COLOR GRADING

software: Natron, Davinci Resolve
...a bit more atmospherics, lens character, grain and warmer colors

During that time, the availability of free Fusion was relatively new and limited in its functionality. Davinci Resolve had only recently updated its edit tab, with no Fusion tab available, and Nuke did not offer an indie-priced version. It was within this context that I made the decision to try Natron, an open-source compositing package, as I was eager to explore its potential for personal projects.
